  • Increase in monthly scholarship for the medal winner sportspersons:CM 16-12-2014

    Chandigarh December 16: Announcing a bonanza for the sportspersons in the State, Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal today announced to increase the monthly scholarship for the medal winners at state level and participants of national level tournament getting coaching at different Sports Wings in the State from Rs 1500 to Rs 2500 for Sub-Junior and Junior Category and from Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 for seniors. This would benefit 885 players getting training in 56 sports wings across the State.           The Chief Minister who was presiding over meeting of Sports and Youth Affairs Department here today also announced that a new insurance scheme would also be prepared for all the sportsperson in the State. He also announced that all the sportsperson selected under Sports and Physical Aptitude Test (SPAT) would also be given admission in sports nurseries and academies to further groom their talent. For this, new day boarding sports nurseries and academies would be set up at district level.           Mr Manohar Lal said that the aim of the present State Government is to develop Haryana as a sports hub and for this; there is a need to nurture the sports talent at the grass root level. He directed the concerned officers to organize maximum sports activities at district and block level so that the participation of children in sports could be increased. Besides winning medals, our aim should be to ensure the all round development of youth, he added.           The Chief Minister directed that traditional sports such as Yoga and Akhara Kushti (wrestling) should be promoted in a big way. Apart from this, coaches imparting training in traditional sports should be engaged on contract basis in the rural stadia till the appointment of new coaches are made.             In the meeting he was apprised that as many as 40 new indoor stadiums would be constructed at Block Level. Out of this, two stadiums would be constructed in district Sirsa and Fatehabad under Backward Regions Grand Fund while, in rest of the districts, 38 Indoor Stadiums would be added from Government of India grant under Rajiv Khel Abhiyan. Each stadium would cost Rs. 80 lakh.           Haryana Sports Minister Mr Anil Vij, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Principal Secretary Mrs Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs Department Dr K.K Khandelwal, Principal Secretary, Finance Mr P.K Das were also present in the meeting.   IPRDH/2014
