Haryana CM directed officers of Public Health Engineering Department to ensure maximum participation of Gram Sabhas in development process of villages
Chandigarh, December 17 – Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal directed the officers of Public Health Engineering Department to ensure maximum participation of Gram Sabhas in development process of villages so that proper transparency in the implementation of various village level works could be achieved. For this, he also suggested to increase the number of meetings of Gram Sabhas.
The Chief Minister, who was presiding over a review meeting of Public Health Engineering Department here today, directed that the Department should also inform the Gram Sabhas about the funds allocated to the Gram Panchayats for the repair as well as installation of new tubewells. He said that from now a block level officer of the department would also attend Gram Sabha meetings.
He said that a system should also be kept in place to delegate financial powers of Water Supply and Sewerage Board for the financial approval of various development projects.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officers that besides achieving the target, they should also maintain quality of works. He also directed the department to prepare new schemes under the National Capital Region Planning Board and NABARD so as to utilize maximum funds. He also directed the department to carry out third party inspection of all works to be undertaken under the Indira Gandhi Drinking Water Schemes now renamed as SCSP so as to ensure quality in executing works. He was apprised that so far as many as 10,21,409 Scheduled Castes households in urban and rural areas have been provided free water connection, 200 litre water tank with tap.
Those present in the meeting included Public Health Engineering Minister Rao Narbir Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Sanjeev Kaushal, Additional Principal Secretary Mrs. Sumita Misra, Principal Secretary Finance Mr. P.K. Das, Principal Secretary Public Health Engineering Mr. Alok Nigam and other senior officers of the department.
