Chandigarh, Dec 24--Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has thanked the Union Government, especially the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, for awarding “Bharat Ratna”, the country's highest civilian award, to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In a statement issued here today, he said that in honoring the two great personalities, the Union Government had respected the sentiments of more than 125 crore people of the country. The Chief Minister said that Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, who founded Banaras Hindu University, stood for rich Indian culture and moral values. An educationist, fearless reporter and litterateur, he was addressed as “Mahamana”. “Awarding him Bharat Ratna on his birth anniversary is a real tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya”, he added. Describing Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee as a votary of value-based politics, a statesman and a great visionary, the Chief Minister said that during his tenure as Prime Minister, he ushered in a new era in Indian politics and added to the dignity of the chair. “Honoring Atal Ji with Bharat Ratna is a true recognition of the great services he rendered to the nation”, Mr Manohar Lal remarked.
