  • CM has given approval to abolish Semester system from classes IX to XII from next year in all schools in the state. 1-06-2015

Chandigarh, June 1 – Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal has given approval to abolish Semester system from classes IX to XII from next year in all schools in the state. The Semester system in IX and XI has been abolished from the current year. However, the Semester system will be continued for classes X and XII only during the current year as the students have studied as per semester system in their previous classes that is class IX and XI during academic session 2014-15. While stating this here today, Education Minister Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma said that department would conduct monthly test for each class from I to VIII and semester system would not be followed in these classes. During the interaction session with representatives of all teachers associations and unions with Chief Minister and Education Minister on April 24, 2015, there was unanimous opinion to abolish Semester System in the schools. This issue was also discussed in meeting of Board of Secondary Education, Haryana on May 8, there was broad consensus that Semester System should be abolished because there was unnecessarily wastage of time of teachers in additional examination duties and examining of papers for 1st semester of classes X to XII during September and October every year. Due to this, the teachers were not available for teaching the students of classes IX and XI during these two months. It was also emphasized that CBSE too does not have any semester system.
