CHANDIGARH, July 29—Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has said that the state government is committed to develop Gurgaon as the smartest of the smart cities.
While speaking at the Nasscom Product Conclave in Gurgaon today, he said that Gurgaon lagged behind in the race as Karnal and Faridabad had ranked above, but this is not final. One of the main reasons for Gurgaon trailing behind is its non-inclusion in Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) which carries 20 marks. Therefore, Gurgaon has to score out of only 80 marks, not 100 for entry in the list. However, the state government has requested the Centre to include Gurgaon in the list and provide Rs 100 crore, the amount to be given by the Central Government annually for developing a smart city, he added.
“We have requested the Central Government to include Gurgaon in the list and take three cities, instead of two, from Haryana. The Central Government is considering the proposal. If at all it does not accede to our request, the state government would develop Gurgaon as the smartest city”, the Chief Minister added.
