Chandigarh September 11: Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi inaugurated the New Civil Air Terminal at Chandigarh Airport today. The New Terminal which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 939 crore (including the cost of land) will boost the economic and industrial development in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
The new Civil Air Terminal has been established as a joint venture by the name of Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) with the participation of Airport Authority of India, Haryana and Punjab governments with the equity status of 51 per cent and 24.5 per cent with each of the State governments respectively. The modern integrated Terminal Building is equipped with modern state-of-the-art equipment and passenger facilities.
On the inauguration of the New Civil Terminal, Mr Modi was accompanied by Governor of Haryana and Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory (UT) Chandigarh Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, Haryana Chief Minister Mr Manohar Lal, Chief Minister Punjab Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Mr P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Member of Parliament Mrs Kirron Kher.
Before inaugurating the Civil Air Terminal, Mr Modi was shown the model of the new building and taken around an exhibition of photographs of the facility. He was also presented a memento by Civil Aviation Minister Mr Raju.
The Terminal building, which has a peak hour handling capacity of 1600 passengers, has been built on 300 acres of land. The building includes 48 check in counters, four long (72M) baggage conveyor belts, three passenger boarding bridges (aerobridges) and parking facility for 500 cars. Apart from this, it has capacity for parking 8 aircraft, 7 of ‘C’ Type and one of ‘E’ Type and the Cargo Apron for Two ‘C’ Type aircraft. The new facility has cargo apron measuring 120mx110m. Ample green features have also been introduced in the New Civil Air Terminal which included LED Lighting, Energy Efficient Chillers, Double Insulated Roofting System, Rain Water Harvesting and Re-use of treated water.
