Chandigarh, December 15 - Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, has urged the people of the State to elect good representatives to the Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State in the upcoming elections so as to ensure better and transparent administration at the village level.
Mr. Manohar Lal was interacting with the media persons after going around the ‘Newscapes 3`, an exhibition by photojournalists of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector-16, Chandigarh, here today. He said that the State Government has implemented the new Haryana Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act, 2015, to enable the educated and responsible people to step into the system.
He said that though the State Election Commission has to finalise the date of Panchayat Elections and is also responsible for conducting the elections, the State machinery is geared up for the same as and when elections are declared.
He said that the Panchayat Elections should be held with the spirit of brotherhood hence, the Party has decided not to contest these elections on Party symbol. In reply to another question, the Chief Minister said that voting is the fundamental right of every citizen and all should exercise their right to franchise for strengthening of democratic system.
The Chief Minister expressed appreciation for the exhibition organised in memory of late Mr. Yog Joy and said that the photojournalists have done a commendable job by displaying their best photographs. He said that this exhibition should be organised throughout the year as this would not only provide a platform to photojournalists to exhibit their best collections but also promote tourism. He assured all possible assistance of the State government for the same. OSD to Chief Minister, Mr. Jawahar Yadav, Media Advisor, Mr. Amit Arya and Chairperson of Punjab Arts Council, Mrs. Harjinder Kaur were also present on this occasion.
