Chandigarh, December 21 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal today honoured 258 sports persons during a felicitation ceremony organised for medal-winning players of Haryana, at Panchkula near here today. A sum of Rs 9.50 crore was given away as cash prizes to the medal-winners of the 35th National Games held in Kerala this year, besides other international events.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mr. Anil Vij was also present in the function. As many as 129 men and 129 women players were felicitated during this function. These players include 236 players of National Games and 22 players who have won medals in international competitions during 2012-15. Before the implementation of the New Sports Policy announced by the present State Government, the gold medal winners of this competition used to get a sum of Rs three lakh as cash prize, which has been increased to Rs five lakh. Similarly, the cash prize given to silver medal winners has been increased from Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh and that of bronze medal winners has been increased from Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh. Now, these players have been given the enhanced amounts. The contingent from Haryana had bagged the second position by winning a total of 107 medals, including 40 gold medals, 40 silver and 27 bronze medals, during the National Games held at Kerala from January 31 to February 14, 2015. The awarded players include 13 members of the Athletics team who had won four gold, four silver and six bronze medals. They have been awarded a sum of Rs 44.50 lakh according to the enhanced amount of cash prizes under the New Sports Policy.
Similarly, Rs 22.50 lakh has been given to the Badminton team of seven players who had won two silver medals. The 10-member Beach Handball team which bagged one bronze medal has been awarded Rs 12 lakh, whereas the 16-member Handball team which won one gold medal has been awarded Rs 80 lakh. Similarly, cash awards worth Rs 18 lakh have been given away to the 6-member Boxing team which bagged one gold, three silver and two bronze medals, Rs 27 lakh to 7-member Cycling team which won one gold, four silver and two bronze medals, Rs 3 lakh to the sports person who won silver medal in Fencing, and Rs 40 lakh to the 20-member Women Football team which bagged one bronze medal. Similarly, a sum of Rs 3 lakh has been given away to the athlete who won a silver medal in Gymnastics, Rs 34 lakh to the 17-member Men Hockey team which won one bronze medal, Rs 54 lakh to the 18-member Women Hockey team for winning one silver medal, Rs 32 lakh to the 11-member Judo team for bagging two gold, four silver and five bronze medals, and Rs 55 lakh to the 11-member Men Kabaddi team which won a gold medal. Similarly, Rs 60 lakh have been given away to the 12-member Women Kabaddi team for winning a gold medal and Rs 60 lakh each to the 12-member Men and Women Netball teams for winning a gold medal each. Likewise, Rs 30 lakh has been given away to the 6-member Rugby 7S team for winning a gold medal, Rs 79.50 lakh to the 20-member Shooting team for winning two gold, nine silver and four bronze medals, Rs 13.50 lakh to the two-member Swimming team which won two gold and three silver medals and Rs 22 lakh for the 7-member Taekwondo team which won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Similarly, Rs 13 lakh have been given away to the 3-member Weightlifting team which won two gold and two silver medals, Rs one crore to the 22-member Wrestling team which won 18 gold, two silver and two bronze medals and Rs six lakh to the 2-member Wushu team which won two silver medals. Also, 22 players of various international events organised during the tenure of previous Congress government were honoured in this function.
Among these players, Rs 24 lakh have been given away to seven players of Roller Skating who had won four gold, two silver and one bronze, Rs two lakh to an athlete who had won a bronze medal, Rs 8.50 lakh to two players of Shooting who had won three gold, one silver and one bronze medal, Rs 13 lakh to five players of Wrestling who had won five bronze medals, Rs three lakh to a players who had won one silver medal in Kayaking, Rs eight lakh to a player who had won one silver medal in Boxing, Rs three lakh to a player who had won one silver medal in Weightlifting and Rs 20 lakh to four participating players of Para Asian Games-2014.
