Chandigarh, August 23–The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, has urged the people of the state to take a vow to make the biggest possible sacrifice for protecting the unity and integrity of the country, and strive hard to maintain harmony.
Speaking at a function organised on the concluding day of the Tiranga Yatra in Karnal today, the Chief Minister said that this year marked 70 years of Independence apart from the 75th anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement’.
Tiranga Yatra was organised at various places from August 9 to carry forward the vision of the Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, to acquaint the people, particularly the youth, with the heroics and sacrifices made by the brave martyrs during the freedom struggle. The Yatra is aimed at instilling in the youth sense of patriotism, goodwill, unity and integrity.
Mr Manohar Lal said that the people of the state, cutting across the barriers of religion, caste, class and field, had participated in large numbers in the freedom struggle starting from the first revolt of 1857 to the last battle. While the state accounts for just two per cent of the total population of the country, 10 per cent of the freedom fighters belonged to Haryana who made maximum sacrifices for the motherland. He asked the youth to contribute to the nation’s progress by developing and honing their skills.
The Chief Minister participated in the Tiranga Yatra after flagging it off and paid floral tributes to the martyrs at various memorials.
Those present included the Industries and Commerce Minister, Mr. Vipul Goel, Minister of State for Food and Supplies (Independent Charge), Mr. Karan Dev Kamboj, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Bakhshish Singh Virk, Member of Parliament, Mr. Ashwini Kumar Chopra, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Nilokheri, Mr, Bhagwan Dass Kabir Panthi, MLA, Thanesar, Mr. Subhash Sudha, Officer on Special Duty to Chief Minister, Mr. Amrinder Singh, former ministers Mr. I.D. Swami and Mr. Shashipal Mehta, Mayor, Karnal Municipal Corporation, Mrs. Renu Bala Gupta, other political leaders and prominent personalities of the area.
